Sometimes during hearings regarding these matters, questions would be asked about things that were seemingly pointless. Most of the time, it was to paint a clearer picture of the situation or just to even the tone of the setting out. The Lusitania hearings is a perfect example of this (Captain Turner was asked a couple of questions that I thought were pretty pointless, such as what he was wearing when the ship was going down, what could he remember, etc.).
