So, U128 has made it all the way across the Atlantic after some month or so of sailing across at sea

I'm slowly but surely creeping into New York, but there's quite a trip to get into the harbour, and I believe they have shore batteries operating along the coast.
My question is, if i wait until night, and then creep in slowly on the surface, can that increase my chances? or can the battereis see you as well at night as if it was broad daylight?
I know, harbour raiding in Feb 1942 is risky, but, with risk comes rewards. If I can sink a US battleship at berth in the harbour, I'll be happy
