In Australia Ugg is a generic term for sheep skin boots. There was a battle with a U.S. footware company who tried to spot the usage here in Australia of the term. They lost!
They did suceed in getting it copyrighted in the U.S., so no Australian firm can sell them buy that name in the U.S.
