Never heard of a boat runing out of gas tbh.
I read in silent victory that one of the boats (sorry cant remember which one) made it back to port with such a small ammount of desil left in the tanks that the skipper was relieved of command almost immedietly.
Looks like the USN took this subject extremley serousley and if you ran out of gas and it was not due to enemy action eg leaks due to deapth charge etc you would be hung drawn and quatered
