An excellent analogy.

GTA is not for kids.

Violent video games won't turn a normal kid into a criminal.

An abnormal kid with existing emotional issues may have these tendencies enhanced.

To me, the solution is for the parents with kids with violent emotional problems not to allow these abnormal kids to play violent video games.

Parents with normal kids who don't have violent emotional problems can, at their discretion, allow their kids to play the video games.

Don't punish the massive majority of normal kids who play violent video games and go on to live normal lives because there were a tiny minority of abnormal kids who play violent video games and go on to live abnormal lives.

I was brought up on violent movies and TV shows. When I as an adult along came video games (I am old!) I play violent video games a lot.

I have never committed an unlawful violent act against another person.

I am, by my nature, not a violent person. I like to play violent video games as recreation. Evan as a stupid kid, I was able to tell the difference between a violent movie, book, comic, TV show and reality. Never got the two confused.

My kids? Also grew up with violent movies, books, comics, TV shows, and video games. While they may be losers who can't hold a job (grrrrrr), none of them are violent criminals.

I suppose an argument can be made that violent movies, books, comics, TV shows, and video games could be an enabling trigger for a pre-existing mental problem. But to make the argument that violent movies, books, comics, TV shows, and video games can create a mental problem is spurious.
