So is he somekind of "easter egg" in SH4? What type of ship does he operate?

Where is this "Bungo Straits"? Or is that a hidden easter egg?

I think they are all pretty good. I have U-571, Down Periscope, Master and Commander, and The Hunt for Red October... so far. I hope I didn't go off topic.
