Funny is, while 1st may is a leftist holiday, it was made an official holiday in Germany by Hitler. On the same day he declared 1st may a national holiday, abolished the trade unions and created a new national socialist "labour front"...
But generally, it is nothing bad to have a holiday dedicated to the working class, social rights and trade unions.
Traditionally, German may day includes:
- Vatertag, fathers going out into the green and drinking themselves into stupor
- labour union demonstrations, mostly about social topics
- neo nazis demonstrating and rioting with leftist counter-protesters with the police caught in between
But generally most of the younger people are hung over on 1st may anyway, as the night before is generally a wild party "dance into may"
Also, the night from 30st April to 1st May is Walpurgis night, when the forces of darkness come out of hiding, witches congregate on the Brocken and Beelzebub himself holds court.....
