No game crashes by doing this---
Only save when on the surface. If I see that time (realtime) will not let me get into and out of a combat situation I save on the surface using " on patrol" in my case.
I can then come back the next time I play and get into and out on the surface again to save again.
If you can not save on the surface ( without any other input from surrounding ships or land) then use the "FALSE SAVE" method. ( I wrote this up last year ).
Save a few saves after the one you want such as " vvv" , "www" , "xxx" , "yyy" , and "zzz". These are close enough to where in time you want to be so try to start "zzz" --- if it works all is fine if not go to "yyy" . In a submerged battle with lots of ships it may take one or two false saves restarts to get back up a running.
During the load time have a beer.
Hope this helps SNAKE1937
