Funny you should mention that. In most international reports of BSE/VCJD the focus is on britain alone; no-one alludes to the fact that france, germany and many other european countries had it too in some number or other, and all as a result of agricultural industry attempts across europe to make more money by re-cycling animal carcasses into feed for animals who's natural diet as herbivores does not include spinal cord nor vertebrae. I mean... what were they thinking?!

As for the tourist industry, I wouldn't worry. We have so many people taking advantage of EU laws on employment and immigration by coming to the UK to work to earn money only to return home when the wind changes direction, that those more optimistic politicians consider it a kind of 'economic tourism'
