It's strange though, I've returned to base in stock SHIII before, and received my renown.

as far as im aware this stock SH3 issue strikes whenever it feels like it... not all the time.
it is very wierd, and if there was a way around it im sure someone would have found it by now... of course the only way around it is to not upgrade
anything until you are back in port.
