Even after reading such a detailed account of such an attack, it's only a taste of what it was to experience it firsthand!
I found it interesting that the Japanese method of "ringing" the sub with escorts, is very similar to the methods employed by the famous U Boat killer, Cmdr. Walker. I just saw a documentary on the History International channel the other day on the Battle Of The Atlantic. It describes how Walkers own ship would be the one to maintain Sonar contact, and the rest would form a ring around the unlucky U Boat. It stated that once caught in the ring, a U Boat rarely survived. This statement was augmented by the interviewed former U Boat Cmdr. who's sub was caught in Walker's ring, and forced to surface after a lengthy battle.
