I could not believe it too when my VIIC/41 was finally destroyed at 500 meters (crash dive)!
I don't have a clue guys.
Still it won't dive deeper than 120 meters if the hull is damaged by 55%. There is an obvious hull damage dependence of the Uboat's max depth but as i said, no clue for the extreme depth capability.
