Yahoshua - I completely agree that prohibition, be it of alcohol, cocaine or handguns, has never been effective. I guess however that I was being a bit too subtle. My point was not aimed at encouraging prohibition, but rather a general comment on societal views and concepts.

The drug 'problem' has three basic players - the producers (generally also the importers), the sellers and the consumers. We seem to place the entire blame for the problem on the first two of these groups and go to immense lengths to identify, locate, catch and punish them. The third group (basically us - no offense intended) is virtually ignored when it comes to blame, yet without the demand from the man on the street (be it skid row junkie or corner office corporate lawyer), the drug trade would end tomorrow. Our societies are as guilty as the druggies.
