Some of the judges' comments:
Quote:
1.) Number 9. This picture says so much by saying so little. This is what a sailor loves. Not just a warship, but also the sea. The way the U-boat and the sea are complementing each other is wonderful. You know the purpose of the vessel: war, but you are also given the felling of beauty as she rides the waves. This is a great picture.
2.) Number 3. The creativity in this work is amazing. The picture works. The contrast of the parchment look and the color of the U-boat is a natural draw for the eye.
3.) Number 13. Wonderful contrast and somewhat haunting. There is subtle action that asks what is happening? Is the U-boat attacking or being attacked? The use of the subtle colors is perfect. This is one I would gladly hang on my wall.
4.) Number 5. Wow! The use of light is terrific. This is a picture that makes you almost feel the "wasserbomb" detonating. This picture also leaves the story open and the viewer can finish it anyway they want. Did the U-boat survive, or was this the hot that sent the boat and her crew to the bottom? Very well proportioned and well thought out.
#20: The design, especially the color, seems surreal and cold. The overall effect - the bubbling makes it seem real and alive, calling attention to the victory and death, which I see as the themes.
#4: The design is bright and clear. You could call it captivating since I spent two minutes trying to make out the shape of the sinking ship. I was drawn in by the submarine so much that I needed to know its story by understanding the full picture. I see the theme here of efficient victory. Submarine moves in, kills, and moves out. Business as usual.
#18. The design is peaceful. I guess you could say the theme is peace, calmness, or serenity. The detail is excellent. I thought it was a photograph at first.
#7 - Nice theme, balance, and of course, original artwork. I can tell this was made professionally.
# 10 - A true render, the only one in the batch, Neal, very well done and very detailed.
Entry #11 - Inventive juxtaposition of stylized gauges against a killer screenshot
