Yeah, I loved that graphic.
In real life, if a sub was seriously damaged beyond repair, another sub probably would have been vectored in by radio to assist to take off the crew. The famous
Darter and
Dace incident comes to mind. However, no one is going to send a tug or a tender deep behind enemy lines where there is no air cover. Maybe if you're close to base.
You should be able to operate on one drive shaft tho. Might as well have a 'Game Over' message pop up when you get permanent steering damage.
