Interesting. I've never seen this in SHIII GWX 1 (I'm just loading up GWX 2.0). But I do see it in the U-Boats in SHIV 1.5.

Basically below around 180m of depth, unless I'm at all ahead 1/3 I start to descend. Lost my boat that way. In SHIII I could just hang at any depth.
