Half a mile away? The eagle eyed lookouts seem to spot mine from over 4km away. I have only managed to sink 1 of the 3 cruisers so far in the hogue aboukir and cressy mission. Did that by launching torpedo from extreme range and scored with one hit on the lead ships bow. When I checked it out using the periscope I was promptly shelled into oblivion.
