Thanks, DJFL. I didn't so much expect to sink the ship, but to (at least) slow it down. It still chugged along, with no apparent (or visible) damage, whatsoever. And, I am still playing with stock, patched to 1.4.
Being afraid it was a corrupt save, I've decided to delete it and restart from a previous one.
