Well, this is embarassing. There's a thread right below mine on the location of warships in GWX 2.0:

Hmmm. What excuse should I use?

1. My binoculars were smeared with diesel!

2. I have battery acid burns in my eyes from fixing the below decks damage!

3. Bernard's fat behind was in my way and I couldn't see!
