Royal Oak sunk with just one torpedo, Hood was crippled after 1 as well but was moving at about 2kts. I put every free man into the reloading of the torpedoes, which at best is like you said, 8 minutes. 1 more made the Hood DIW, then it sank. Total expense of 4 torpedoes (1 intended for the Hood was a dud). It's quite manageable. I was worried the Hood was going to sail away from me, but it kept slowing down to 2kts and zigzaging, which made it possible to catch it relatively quick. Escorts couldn't find me in the rough seas, which was an added bonus.
EDIT: I was very skeptical of sinking any of them, I'm sure they packed a lot of armor where it would be ideal for a torpedo to strike, and with only 3 tubes, that's why I made as radical of a choice as I did. I wanted to impact just in front of the turrets, as I'm pretty sure the armor didn't extend that far and I just might be able to inflict significant flooding by doing that. Apparently it worked! maybe something to keep in mind next time any of you guys come across a BB and are low on torpedoes, or in a Canoe?
I fired at the Hood first, 800m away, then the Royal Oak when it was 800m away just as it changed it's course and zigged towards me.
