So I just got raped by a task-force in grid AK. Cans crushed the conning tower, blew all my scopes, and folded tubes 2,3, and 4. I was depressed. I had one torp left in stern, and the other torps were loaded in tubes 2 and 3. So here it is - I escape, surface, etc, run towards Nazaire, and then I discover that you can move torps from a folded tube to a good one! This may hold only as long as the good one is a higher number (i.e., higher in the list on the torpedo screen) than the tube you're bringing it from. I just dragged the torp from tube 2 down into the reserves, and eventually the boys put her in Tube 1. AMazing! I'm not sure if it's realistic, but i'm sure happy to have those remaining fish!
