Helo actually CAN be hear on sonar as broadband contacts, however the range is very very short, hundreds of feet. Anyway if you was at 70ft and had not masts up, it had to be this case. Next time you encounter something weird, save the game.
Btw. there is no such thing as 'comms depth' in DW. You either have radio masts or wire on the surface, or you don't.
