This is not a crash to desktop when trying to load a new game correct? You say you are crashing to desktop when you try to begin a single mission?

Have you installed any mods?

It sounds to me like something may have gotten corrupt upon installation and/or patching. You could always do an uninstall and reinstall. I had to!
