In actuality, some of the ships for "Danger from the Deep" can have their names painted on the bow or stern. Each ship has the port and starboard side modeled separately, with support for an extremely high level of detail.
I came across an interesting story about the sinking. During the attack, U-43 was able to positively identify the tanker because one of the sub's officers had actually been a mate on board her before the war, when she was still owned by Germany.
His commander said the whole thing was a sad experience for him - especially b/c there was a terrible gale and it was hopeless for the crew to abandon ship.
