:hmm: Correction: you do
not need to actually lock the target.
But the target must be close enough for a lock-on. (Often you can see a target before it's within lock-on range ... in that situation, you won't get an ID.)
You
do need to have your scope/TBT pointing at the target, though ... same as when entering data to the TDC. A lock-on simply centers your crosshairs and helps to insure you've sighted the proper target.
