check draft. fire torpedo at a slight diagonal angle(because the magnets take a while to go Hey theres a ship here). and PRAY!
i usually do it on stationary targets or destroyers coming-bow on at me...snapshots are fun too. no point in firing a spread on a ship thats not moving.
besides, it gives you time to think
