Actually, on a soft bottom sea floor (sand, mud), I'd expect that a large metal object, like a submarine, would return a sharp, focused and easily recognized active SONAR/ASDIC echo. I'd think you'd stand out from the bottom like a sign post. Wrecks certainly do.

Passive hydrophone's might not find you, but active sure should.
