Kaptain hans wolf..U-45..2nd flotilla..

our tenth patrol, the first with our new flotilla, still sailing the mighty U-45.

we left Brest and headed for patrol grid AM23. on the way we encountered an electrik torpedo boat, which we sunk easily. next, we happened apon a large convoy, with three destroyers and an armed trawler as escort. we attacked at night, submerged. on our first attack run, we sunk a C3cargo and a C2 cargo. we then left to reload, and came back the next night to attack the same convoy, sinking a T2 tanker and a C3 cargo. we again left, after evading the destroyers for around half an hour.

we re-loaded, and came back to inflict more damage, which turned out to be a bad idea. when we finally got into a good position for an attack, it was early morning, and the destroyers still seemed to be on edge. however i craved for a couple more white pennants, so i pressed the attack. we launched our remaining two torpedo's at a T2 tanker, but both shots missed. the destroyers were on to us.

soon, the sky was swarming with planes, dropping plenty of depth charges, and the destroyers were hot on my tail. we evaded them, after nearly an hour of cat and mouse. our hydrophone was out of action, so were both of our periscopes, so we were blind. we surfaced, and to our horror an armed trawler was sitting behind us.

he started shooting, we launched our rear torpedo but i missed by far. instead of diving, we duked it out with him on the surface in a deck gun duel. eventually, we came out the victor.

we were out of eel's, so we flagged heading for our patrol zone, and went back to home port. the crew sang its a long way to tipperary, and for the old gal, the U-45, it must have been a long way. she was starting to show her age, and it wouldent be soon untill we were put to sea in an IXC. but fore now, the U-45 lives on, but with the allies getting smarter, im not sure how long!
