Having said that I think the GWX team have got the way ships sink in SH3 about right. Sometimes ships take quite a time to sink in GWX and to be honest I don't want to hang around for hours waiting for a ship to sink to get the credit. If on the other hand credit was given as soon as a ship was torpedoed and critically damaged even if it took several hours or even days to sink then that would be fine, but SH3 doesn't work that way unfortunately.

I think you'll find that in many instances you do get the "She's going down" message and the sunken ship icon long before the ship succumbs (usually to the varied effects of flooding)
