Ahoy captains! I apologize in advance if this has been covered, but I found little mention with a forum search, and thought you ATI-equipped skippers ought to know about this.
If you are an ATI user, and like me, you have an older system with an AGP card, you have been stuck with older (7.7 or so) drivers due to broken AGP compatibility. The problem manifests itself by the 3D engine failing to start after installation of the newer drivers, forcing you to roll back and stay with the older ones.
Well, the boys down at AMD/ATI
finally got around to issuing a hotfix with version 8.1. So if you are interested, you can get back on the official driver bandwagon with 8.1. I'm running them on my AGP X1600 with no problems.
