Exactly. If you are playing with limited fuel, you have to be aware of how your fuel usage will effect your patrol.

This is *ESPECIALLY* critical in a Type IIA. I like playing with the kleine boots, but as soon as I can I trade the IIA in for a IID, which has much better range. That lets you cruise to your patrol areas at 6 knots, then have plenty of fuel to go chasing down targets. With the IIA, you have to let some opportunities pass simply because if you chased everything down you wouldn't be able to make it back to base.

You also have to be wary of fuel consumption with the Type VII's, and the IX's (on edit: Except for the IXD2, of course), but in those cases you generally can be replenished (for instance, by the Bessel at Vigo) if you are far from home. There is no such option in the Nordsee.
