Thanks all for the help. The message is a bit garbled, but I now know what to make of the oddball latitude, because I've started another campaign and got something where both pieces aren't standard-looking, but the area makes sense.
BTW, in the previous campaign I missed the juicy IJN force (a shame!), but later I ran across a large slow convoy. I made an end-around and was in perfect position for a daylight submerged attack, and the water was not glassy smooth. There was one subchaser in the front. One! And it was just leading the left column, going straight and docile like a robotic sheep, and I'm coming in across the right column to attack that left column behind the SC. As soon as I was just about in firing position (and I'm only doing very short peeks through the scope), the SC makes a beeline for me. I manage to loose four fish (which missed; this was my "figure out the PK" campaign) and tried to go deep; I was sunk on the way down. Dead is dead, so off to another campaign.
