Amazing to see the japs could still operate ships all the way to Timor if needed in late 44. I guess by that stage the clearness of the routes was less important than the fact they were running out of boats.
Good to read something with the New Zealander's in it also. We would have done far more in the pacific if we weren't so busy trying to save England. Sometimes strategic imperatives are a real pain in the backside
I don't know how well known it is, but the NZ airforce also operated from US carriers in the pacific. They were known for their style of dropping onto the carrier decks... hard and fast. It's amazing when I see some footage of it in doco's, with the intention to let the viewer think they are Americans. It's even more impressive that the Americans allowed us to use our own doctrine while on their vessels. Especially considering how reckless they thought we were ^^
