Dont ya just luv the way the CTD follows you back in time! Infecting previous saves. Seems incredible really.
I never found out what caused the CTD's but they have since stopped for me. I did have to reload all the way back to port as you did but when I redid my patrol I was able to complete it.
I took no corrective action. Basically I ignored it and hoped it would go away. I am currently in 1943 of the same career and have not had a CTD for many patrols now. Go figure...
All I can say is hang in there eventually one of the L33t folks here will figure it out.
