I thought he meant that the inner, non-rotating part of your compass shows a ring of marks labelled 0 to 9, rather than marks related to degrees, as found on the rotating outer part of the compass.
Being aeronautically minded rather than nautically minded, I have no idea what the use of the marks are on a scale of 0-9, or how to use them (part of the reason I added back in the large sliding compass from the default GWX installation). If they went from 1 to 12 I'd use them like pilots do - "bandit at 2 o'clock. On the horizon, funnily enough"
Still rather pointless for a U-boat crew though!
Anybody care to explain what they're for?
