I had the same thing happen this morning - rammed by an escort I didn't see coming - destroyed both periscopes, radio antenna and flak gun on my VIIB.
I had to limp back to port with 12 torpedos remaining. Worst of all, the escort sank from the ramming, but I didn't get credit for the "kill". I guess destroyer suicide doesn't count!
