I might not be an STG, but I'm pretty sure the command and U.S. Navy tactics are aware of this. That's why they
wait until they have a decent contact and need a verified range to target before pinging away. It's not the old days of WW2 or even thru the 60's you know.
EDIT: Our WLR-9 receiver didn't give us a range...only bearing.
