Would there be a noticable increase...yes. Does it make any sense to do what you're suggesting? No.
Both the 9600XT and the 9800XT are obsolete five year old pieces of technology. Right now, it makes sense to get an entirely new PCIe equipped system with a dual core processor. If you don't want to ditch the rest of your computer (which is seriously underpowered by today's standards in the CPU department), I would suggest something more recent than the 9800XT...something like an X1950 Pro for your AGP slot. |

I will have to do a lot of research once again since my computer is going on 5 and everything has changed.
Looks like it is time to build a new computer again.
