Don't mean to highjack this thread, but how come I can start my career in '39 from Wilhelmshaven, mooch through the channel without a single peep from a ship (I even had a look in Dover port to see if anyone was home...nada). Neither. I'd say most likely a bug. Are you using a mod? Maybe it is corrupted?
The Channel SHOULD be full of patrols, especially between Dover and Calais!
I made it through once at night in early war, but I avoided several warships.
