When I was a kid
it wasn't uncommon while hunting to see the older guys (brother in laws and uncles) I was out with fire birdshot into the rear of a bird dog who wasn't listening well to commands. Most of those guys were ranchers and so I suppose it was an old American tradition for the insensitivity brought on by pre-20th century American pioneer testosterone. As a kid I mainly felt anger toward the old guys. I suppose its just fair that dogs have the last laugh.
