I havn't had any excitement crossing der kanal in GWX2.0 so far. I run flank at night throught he strait and run decks awash any time I get close to an enemy ship, slowing if necessary. I also run through the center to avoid the mines, though I have yet to need to dive deep enough for it to matter.

Lucky you. I'd say your way of crossing Der Kanal is a straight way to get sunk.

I was crossing it at 8 knots maximum or decks awash at about 5 knots, in moderate visibility conditions, and I met MANY escorts patrolling the area, usually patrol boats, but also a destroyer. I suppose going flank would immediately let them see me.
Also remember there is no such a thing like "going deep" in Der Kanal.
