Ok here's what I did: Saved my mission NW of Heligoland, docked at Cuxhaven. Got 439 points for my 6900tons.
Reloaded the game and headed towards Kiel. Before entering the Kanal, my NO advised me we had Zero fuel. I kept on steaming through the Kanal, waiting for the inevitable engine choke but it never came. I made it no problem and got the same prestige points.

And you can trick a little bit with the faulty SH3 engine like this:
Go to periscope depth and travel, when your bats are empty surface but do NOT move (so you don't use fuel) .. et voila... by magic after a few hours your bats are recharged... repeat from start.... |
