I've had similar experiences with stragglers from convoys, though never that long, most peculiar was a ship from a slow convoy that I hit on my first attack, she started straggling almost immediately, so I wrote that one up as sunk and continued my end around but on the second and third attack on the convoy the same night, when I was making my silent submerged egress out the back, both times that thing steams into hydrophone range just as I'm about to surface. so after the 3rd time, when I'm all out of eels I went back to deckgun the thing into submission, which worked except for the Medium Merchant, I think that was what it was, calling in escort backup, which then proceeded to DC me for 2 hours....
