Click your mouse pointer on the little square and you will get the estimated direction and speed. With the line tool, starting at the center of the square, draw a long line that represents the direction of travel. The real direction may vary up to 5-degrees to either side of this line. So, as in real life, the commander had to take this unknown into account when going after this contact.
Once you get use to this, it will be a lot more fun and a lot more realistic.

Someone posted a printable compass rose the other day. I printed it out and placed the appropriate marks and degrees around it for easy reference.
