I have an 8800 GTS 320 and also had this FPS problem.

I enabled the new nvidia beta drivers (169.21 for XP) a few weeks ago and has not encountered the problem since. Before anybody enables these new drivers.. make shure you know what you are doing.. afterall they are still beta !
