They definitely attack you!
This was back in stock, but i was engaging a C3 with my deckgun off Hartlepool and 2 hurricanes showed, so I took those out too.
In GWX, if a convoy gets attacked, by you, and I'd imagine by axis planes too (I can't personally confirm this), if a plane is in the area it will come to assist the escorts and drop bombs, strafe and generally make a right nuisance of itself
