Luxury.................When I was a lad,
we'd get up two hours before we went to
bed clean house clean lake clean road
then off to school fifteen miles uphill
in both directions at minus fifty
wearing only me fathers
pajamas through twenty feet of snow
in me bare feet.
done school wed go off to
mill and put in twenty eight hours
in the overnight shift and we did it for a ha'penny
per annum for our salary
blissfully done for the day wed head home
and me father would saw us in two with a
breadknife. so as to save on feeding us
as there was but two breadcrumbs
and a sardine to feed the entire continents
of europe and asia me family was last in queue
and I was youngest
Oh but we was happy then....................................
