What are some things that you guys do on almost every patrol that a new guy like me would probably not know about?
The first thing that I can think of is the snorkel....I had no idea there was one until I printed off the QRC. To raise/lower the snorkel, press X. It can allow you to reduce your C02 emissions...but you need to be near the surface!
Any help is appreciated.

all of us have had crappy patrols, that's just the way it goes sometimes. all of us was new to the game at one time so its ok to make mistakes but learn from them. and all of us have use different tactics.
I've learned to be a little more selective with the targets, its ok to let a little coastal merchant go by and save that torpedo for bigger things.
watch your fuel, slow on the surface is just fine, your up there mainly to charge up and get some air so save it you never know when you might need run to a spot to intercept something later on.
i like to have the aft torpedo room with electric torpedo's and use them just for war ships or when i have used up all forward reserved then ill use them up on lone ships i run into..
attacking something around a narrow straits that's heavily patrolled like near Dover for example can cause you to get swarmed with patrol craft..
convoys, i like to enter from diagonally in front and not strait on or from the side as i seem to be able to squeeze by the front and side escorts with no problem. once in i try to get by the first line so i can have a clearer shot at the bigger targets in side, ill shoot 4 and hope for the best then slip out back diagonally from the back of the convoy and let the escorts get tangled up inside the convoy. plot there course back out till i cant see them any more, surface, reload and set a course around them, re enter and do i all again.
while manning the deck gun put someone on the AA gun also you never know when a plane may show up
play and have fun and you will find things that work for you.
