One has to be naive to think the ideas and commitments of ANY politician are carved in stone. Everything on Capital Hill is negotiable. Look how Republicans has separated themselves from President Bush and his low approval ratings. I think you'll find that the only ones that haven’t are the ones whose seats are safe in the next election. One should expect a candidate to be flexible in light of new data. It is one thing to stand by your principles. It is another to not see different viewpoints on extremely complicated issues like Iraq and immigration.
