are you porting them your self or downloading them..
i just tackled this myself, there's a post floating around with downloads to SH4 ships For SH3.... i just downloaded the ships put them in the sea folder and put the file in the roster file for what country i wonted them to show up for and then added the name to the englishname file and they work just fine... there really not as good as the ships people have made for SH3 though as they sink a little bland and with not much fire and effects.
